Part 8 – Social Media Back to Basics Series.
Your visual identity is how your brand looks at first glance. It includes things like your colours, fonts, photography style, and overall layout. On social media, where first impressions are made in seconds, a consistent visual identity makes you recognisable and professional.
People tend to engage more with content that looks clear, well-designed, and on-brand. It gives them confidence in your business and helps you stand out in a crowded feed.
This doesn’t mean every post needs to look identical. It’s about creating a look and feel that’s cohesive and reflective of your brand personality.
Here are a few tips to get your visual identity working on social media:
- Stick to two or three brand colours in your graphics
- Choose one or two fonts and use them consistently across posts
- Use the same filter or lighting style for your images
- Include your logo or brand mark sparingly but clearly
- Create branded templates for recurring content like quotes, tips, or announcements
When someone visits your profile, they should get a strong sense of your business straight away. That includes what kind of experience they can expect from you – whether it’s creative and fun, calm and professional, or warm and community-focused.
If your social media feels a bit mismatched or inconsistent, now is a good time to take stock. A small amount of design planning goes a long way.
