Part 29 – Social Media Back to Basics Series.
People don’t just buy from businesses – they buy from people they feel connected to. One of the most powerful ways to build that connection is by telling your story.
Your story is what makes your brand unique. It gives your audience a reason to care, trust, and remember you. And the good news is – you don’t need a dramatic backstory to have a strong one. The key is sharing your why.
Here are a few ways to share your story on social media:
- Why you started
What inspired you to begin your business? What problem were you trying to solve, or what passion were you following? - What you believe in
Your values can be a big part of your story. What matters to you? What do you want to stand for in your industry? - Milestones and lessons
Share how far you’ve come – and what you’ve learned along the way. This helps people see the human side of your brand. - Personal touches
Your interests, routines, challenges, or creative process can all form part of your brand story. This kind of content often sparks the most engagement.
Tips for telling your story with confidence:
- Be honest – you don’t need to overshare, but a little vulnerability goes a long way
- Speak in your natural voice – keep it conversational, like you’re talking to one person
- Link it back to your audience – show how your journey helps or relates to them
- Don’t assume everyone’s heard it before – new followers join all the time
You can tell your story in many formats – a caption, a short video, an Instagram reel, or even a pinned post or story highlight. The goal isn’t just to get attention, but to build connection and trust.
If you need help crafting your brand story or turning it into content that resonates with your audience, I’d love to support you.
