Part 25 – Social Media Back to Basics Series.
You don’t always need to create brand new content for every platform. In fact, cross-promoting your content is one of the smartest ways to save time, stay consistent, and reach more people without doubling your workload.
Cross-promotion simply means resharing or adapting one piece of content to work across different channels. It’s not about copying and pasting – it’s about making the most of the time and effort you’ve already invested.
Here are a few examples:
- Turn an Instagram carousel into a LinkedIn post
- Repost a Facebook video to your Instagram stories
- Share a snippet of your blog post on Facebook with a link to read more
- Take a popular post from last month and refresh it with a new graphic or caption
- Share a behind-the-scenes reel on TikTok and Instagram
- Add your newsletter content to your Facebook page for people who missed it in their inbox
Top tips for successful cross-promotion:
1. Tailor the format
Different platforms have different strengths. Instagram likes visuals, LinkedIn prefers longer-form thought leadership, and Facebook thrives on community-based content. Adjust your tone and layout to suit the platform.
2. Stagger your posts
Instead of posting the same content on every platform at the same time, spread it out. This keeps your content fresh and avoids overwhelming people who follow you in more than one place.
3. Use consistent branding
Even when you’re cross-promoting, keep your visuals and tone aligned with your brand. This builds recognition and trust.
4. Link to your other platforms
Use each channel to gently guide people toward your other content. For example, you could post a teaser on Instagram and encourage followers to read the full story on your blog or LinkedIn.
Cross-promotion helps reinforce your key messages and makes sure your best content gets seen by more people. Don’t be afraid to reuse and adapt what you’ve already created – it’s efficient, smart, and totally allowed.
